Ramsey Muniz: Mexica Political Prisoner
Written by lilman of
Chicano.org

"(In discussing the philosophical viewpoints of the Chicano Civil Rights and and political prisoner, Ramsey Muniz, Professor Raul Garcia sheds light on the spiritual and revolutionary aspect of the Rising of the Sixth Sun, the rebirth of indigenous consciousness in the Mexican-American/ Chicano community.) From Ramsey's point of view, the movement begins with a love of La Raza. From this spiritual relation to our people there emerges a power that heals the inner nature of the human self. This is why he says that when he feels this power, all inner turmoil disappears. In fact, all fear of the unknown and the future is no longer there. This comes about as a consequence of the faith and confidence which he places on La Raza. Deep love of a spiritual nature is possible when there is a profound tie to our people. This is why Ramsey is able to say: "Todo desaparece cuando confio en mi raza."In fact, for his peace of mind, he needs our people, just as much as the people are inspired by his sacrifice. We must not ignore, however, that this spiritual power has a revolutionary quality. That is why we cannot erase entirely the term "revolutionary" from our vocabulary. The revolutionary character of this power is what strengthens, sustains, and uplifts anyone courageous enough to accept it for what it is. Since Ramsey feels that this power runs through his entire being, through even his veins and cells, he knows its healing power. That is why he says that "it heals all wounds," whether mental or physical. In fact, it balances and harmonizes life. This is one of the goals of spirituality. In philosophy it is what some philosophers have called "justice" in the soul, or "happiness of the spirit." In Ramsey's case the spiritual power comes from knowing the history of our people, from bathing in the truths and wisdom left to us by our indigenous forefathers. This is why he insists that Aztlan will never fall again, because with the spiritual/cultural power that runs through our history, the time will come when our resistance will turn into a powerful movement once our people come to know history, culture, and spirituality. Being with La Raza is a necessary condition before it can happen. The resurrection of Aztlan is near, is already happening, is in the process of becoming. Let those who have ears to hear, hear, and those who have eyes to see, see. "
