Archaeologists excited about finds at prehistoric Indian village
Source: ABC 7 Chicago

November 14, 2005 (JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind.) - Archaeologists who spent weeks digging at a southern Indiana farm say the site has yielded a rich harvest of artifacts that shed light on life at an American Indian village about 900 year ago.
The pottery shards, flint arrow points and animal bones found during the dig at the farm outside Jeffersonville reveal information about the daily lives of people during the Mississippian period, roughly from about the year 1000 to about 1700.

Researchers want to keep quiet the location of the unguarded 31-acre site to protect it from potential trampling by curious amateurs.

They say there was many answered questions about how the Mississippian-era Indians lived, how long they were here and why they disappeared.
