Lima, Aug 12 (Prensa Latina) Cusco National Culture Institute in south Peru denounced the destruction of more than 150 meters of an Inca wall located in the Sacred Valley of that ancient civilization on Sunday.
The wall serving to canalize the waters of the Urquillos River in the community of the same name was affected due to the construction of cement and stone channel.
Pedro Taca, director of the INC-Cusco Cultural Heritage, attributed the responsibility to the National Development Institute (INADE), which assumedly acted without the required authorization.
The initiative implemented by INADE does not count on technique strategies and has reduced the river´s banks, a consequence that could have been prevented with a negotiated restoration work, the official said.
He referred to a similar affectation to another pre Columbian wall located very near the destroyed ones, this time with the purpose to adequate a road.
Taca confirmed that INADE was noticed about the incident and that a police denunciation for damages to the cultural heritage expected to derive into a judicial cause at instances of the Public Ministry has already been lodged.
In the farming community of Urquillos there are numerous archeological and colonial vestiges which constitute great part of the locality’s cultural heritage. |
