We have finished writting the new material for our 2nd album to be released late 2009. we are also planing a tour in Mexico and Guatemala under Al Prods on fall of 2009.
Yaotl Mictlan would like to thank all of you who support us. We appreciate all your emails, posts, and comments. However we also appreciate our enemies comments and emails because when my ideals are attacked I analyze my weaknesses and it makes me address and refine them.
We are Tlatecatl=vocals, and guitars. Yaotl=drums, Nahualli= bass , Xolotl= Guitars, and Ocelotl= Pre-hispanic instruments
Many people really don’t understand what Yaotl Mictlan is all about so not so briefly; (Im also going to vent on some shit that I have been meaning to..)
Yaotl Mictlan was created to fight racist Euro-centrism in all levels of life which are found in the world’s educational systems, science, history, and the media. Eradicating the various effects of the murdering of 80 to 100 million of our people (the whole American continent) that have lead to the destruction of our culture, language, dignity, religions, and self esteem. Yes self Esteem, through direct genocidal colonization we have been thought to be ashamed our color of our skin and to hate anything related to our skin including ourselves!
Yaotl Mictlan fights this by focusing on the decolonization of our minds. Our lyrics are about Maya & Mexica life, culture, customs, and, history before the colonization. So then we can empower our youth into embracing their past to move forward as a whole.
The music style that we play is extreme metal because me (Yaotl) and Tlatecatl as little kids loved to play metal. We started the band 1999 for the reason mentioned, but there was another factor in play… the black metal scene. You can say we were a part of it then, until racism overwhelmed the scene and our best friends (who are white) started buying in to it. So instead of getting out of the scene we decided to start some resistance to their bullshit. We incorporated Ancient Mexica and Mayan instruments, and recorded some songs in a four track. I sent this recording to like 3 places/labels, and it ended up in El Brujo’s (Brujeria) hands. He called us and gave us money to record our demo, which is called “ A Batalla Vamos.” It was just Tlatecatl and me. 3 years ago we found our bass player Aj Ben, and about a year or two ago we found our second guitarist Xolotl.
We recorded our full length album and it was released by American Line Productions in Mexico City in 2006.
